Narratives:
  • Up-film is that the real adventure of life is the relationship we have with other people, and it's so easy to lose sight of the things we have and the people that are around us until they are gone.
  • Brave-improving communication between mothers and daughters, although transforming your mom into a bear is a rather extreme first step. Elinor is a good sport, under the circumstances.
  • Inside Out-statement to parents and children alike. It says that emotions are important and need to be validated and understood as part of a child's development. Parents can form deeper connections to their children and understand them better by accepting first their own and then their child's emotions.
Event-driven or character-driven?:
  • one area to explore is whether or not the animation is event-driven or character-driven
  • for example, man Disney films are character-driven and one of the commercial reasons behind this is the flogging of expensive merchandise
  • in a film like Grave of the Fireflies the characters actions are shaped by the content of a firebombing rade which is more of an event-driven narrative
